Following a series of medical examinations, she was diagnosed with Stage 3 uterine cancer. To continue her chemotherapy and treatment, she is now seeking RM12,000 to cover her medical expenses.

Ting said that one day in May, while using the restroom at home, she suddenly experienced excessive bleeding. Alone at home and overwhelmed by the situation, she broke down emotionally. Looking pale and weak, she immediately went to a clinic and requested a haemostatic injection.

“The doctor told me that it was not ordinary bleeding but a severe hemorrhage, and that an injection would not solve the problem. He insisted that I be admitted to the hospital immediately. I went home, packed some clothes, and headed straight to the hospital,” she recalled.

Ting shared that prior to this incident, she had already experienced recurring episodes of abnormal bleeding. The bleeding would stop for a while and then return, often accompanied by large blood clots. However, she never imagined the condition was so serious.

She said that after being admitted to the emergency department, doctors conducted scans and detailed examinations. They detected an unusual odor and collected a blood clot sample for further testing. Although the pathology report was not yet available at the time, doctors strongly suspected cancer.

“When the official report came out in June, it confirmed that I had Stage 3 uterine cancer. I was devastated and kept asking myself why this had happened to me.”

According to Ting, doctors discovered that her tumor had grown to approximately 7 centimeters in size. She was informed that if the cancer had been detected at Stage 1 or Stage 2, surgery might have been possible. However, because it had progressed to Stage 3, immediate surgery was no longer an option. She must first undergo chemotherapy to shrink the tumor before doctors can assess whether surgery is feasible.

“The doctors told me that I am still relatively young and must face the treatment positively. If I continue fighting the disease, there is still hope for recovery.”

She has already begun chemotherapy treatment but experiences side effects such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and extreme fatigue, making it impossible for her to continue working.

“The doctors keep encouraging me to stay positive and not let the illness defeat me. I also keep telling myself that no matter what the outcome may be, I must learn to accept and face it.”

As a single mother, Ting revealed that she has been divorced for many years and has always relied on her own hard work to support herself. Although she had a job and was able to get by financially, she was never able to build up any savings.

“I only have money when I am able to work. I am not wealthy. Over the years, I have rented my own place and struggled through life on my own. I never imagined that I would one day be diagnosed with cancer.”

She said she left Sibu, Sarawak, more than 10 years ago to seek better opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, hoping to build a better future for herself. Unfortunately, she now finds herself facing one of the greatest challenges of her life.

As she has no relatives in Kuala Lumpur to care for her during treatment, and because the cost of living and rental expenses are high, she has decided to return to East Malaysia for treatment.

Ting explained that the necessary treatment facilities are available at Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching, while such services are unavailable in Sibu. Therefore, she will return to East Malaysia to undergo further examinations and treatment.

“Chemotherapy causes dizziness and vomiting, and patients need someone to take care of them. I have no family members with me in Kuala Lumpur. I am unable to work and still have to pay rent and living expenses. That is why I have decided to return home to East Malaysia, where my family can support me through this journey.”

Meanwhile, CCEP Foundation CEO Yvonne Yee said that after learning about Ting’s situation, she deeply understood the difficulties faced by a single mother trying to build a life on her own in West Malaysia.

“She has spent more than 10 years working hard in Kuala Lumpur, relying entirely on her own efforts to make a living. Now, this unexpected cancer diagnosis has not only taken away her ability to work but has also placed a significant financial burden on her.”

Yvonne explained that cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and subsequent treatments require constant care and support, as the side effects often include dizziness, vomiting, weakness, and exhaustion.

“For cancer patients, having someone by their side during treatment is extremely important. Many patients are simply unable to care for themselves after chemotherapy sessions.”

She added that Ting has no relatives in Kuala Lumpur and would face tremendous challenges if she continued treatment alone. Without an income, she must also cope with rental payments and daily living expenses.

According to Yvonne, Ting will need to travel to Kuching for continued treatment and medical assessments.

“Even after returning to East Malaysia, travelling between Sibu and Kuching for treatment will incur transportation costs. For someone who has already lost her source of income, these expenses represent an additional financial burden.”

49-year-old Ting Nguok Ming was rushed to the hospital in May after experiencing a severe episode of heavy bleeding.
