Malaysia Hospital Lundu ,Sarawak has been in existence for 60 years, and many of its facilities have become outdated. Coupled with the increase in the local population, the existing equipment is insufficient to meet the demand. In light of this, the CCEP Foundation has initiated a fundraising campaign with the hope of acquiring the necessary equipment for the hospital.
Yee Poo Yoon, the Chief Executive Officer of the CCEP Foundation, stated, “During my personal visit to Hospital Lundu at this East Malaysia Medical Exchange, I discovered that the hospital is grappling with issues of outdated and inadequate equipment.”
“Especially noteworthy is the fact that the bed frames here have been in use for many years. The entire hospital only has a mere two modern beds, while the rest are old and dilapidated iron beds.”
She revealed that, in addition to the outdated bed frames, some of the hospital’s equipment, such as LED phototherapy lights and nebulizers, are also worn out and inoperable. This shortage of operational equipment is affecting the hospital’s ability to provide adequate healthcare services.
“Although we make use of whatever is available, there is no denying that advanced equipment can indeed reduce the workload of medical personnel and make it more convenient for patients. After much discussion, the CCEP Foundation has decided to raise RM35,000 for the hospital. This funding will be used to purchase 10 beds, 1 LED phototherapy light for jaundiced infants, and 2 nebulizers for asthma patients.
She pointed out that the CCEP Foundation aims to achieve its fundraising goal by December and successfully deliver these supplies to the hospital. She personally plans to visit to Kuching to assist in coordinating related matters.
She hopes that by bringing CCEP into local hospitals and showcasing their real situations, more friends in East Malaysia can understand the needs of these hospitals and patients and extend a helping hand.

The director of Hospital Lundu, Dr Chin Shi How, stated that Hospital Lundu has been in existence for 60 years and is the only local hospital in Lundu. The nearest specialist hospital is 100 kilometers away.
“I’ve been here for 12 years, and before my arrival, it was said that some patients had to take a boat across the river to reach the hospital. Fortunately, the government built a bridge, which improved the road access to the hospital.”
He pointed out that Hospital Lundu is not large in scale, with only 46 beds, and it also houses a dialysis center.
“Our equipment here has indeed been in use for quite a long time. Some bed frames are estimated to have been in use for nearly 60 years. The CCEP Foundation is the first non-governmental organization to enter the hospital and is willing to assist us with equipment,” he said.
He revealed that with the increase in the population and diabetes patients, the hospital’s dialysis center only recently increased from 6 to 10 dialysis machines last year. In less than a year, the demand has already surpassed the capacity.
“With the addition of four machines in less than a year, there is already a waiting list for new dialysis patients.”
He also disclosed that the government is planning to restart the construction of Hospital Lundu. Currently, this plan is in the discussion stage, and he hopes that the project will be completed as soon as possible, benefiting more people in the community.
